Miss Georgia Caribbean 2004, Junia Joseph

Proud. Ambitious. Dedicated. Those are just three of the many words used to describe the first ever Miss Georgia Caribbean Queen.

Born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Haitian parents, Junia Joseph has always proudly identified with her Haitian lineage. As the fifth of six children, her parents have raised her to stand tall in the face of those making insulting and disparaging comments toward her culture and people. The same fire and passion Junia displays in representing her Haitian roots carries on to her representation all of the Caribbean nations as she proudly serves as Miss Georgia Caribbean 2004.

The winning of this prestigious honor is a duty she takes seriously and will use her title to make a difference in the Caribbean community throughout the state of Georgia. Junia holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Telecommunications from the University of Florida. She continues to reach new academic heights at Georgia State University where she is pursuing a Master of Arts Degree in Communications with a concentration in Film/Video and Digital Imaging. Her desire to stamp out the inaccurate myths and destroy the negative stereotypes of Caribbean people was a major factor in entering this pageant, but also correlates with her goals in life. Junia’s future career plans include writing, directing, and producing in the Television & Film Industry, creating quality children’s television programming and films that portray Caribbean people positively. The time has come for the Caribbean region to be recognized and respected as part of the world that breeds intelligent, talented, hardworking, and undefeatable people.

Miss Georgia Caribbean – Reinvented

In its fifth year of existence the Miss Georgia Caribbean Pageant has reinvented its pageantry system. The MGCP system took a year to examine its former system, consulted with its pageant association – EPIC and held several workshops with several other Caribbean pageant organizations such as the Miss Florida Caribbean Pageant.

Most significantly the MGCP is please to announce the addition of two other pageant segments to its system. The Jr. Miss Georgia Caribbean and the Miss Teen Georgia Caribbean contests will be apart of this year’s showcase. The Jr. MGCP is opened to girls between the ages of nine (9) and thirteen (13), and the Teen MGCP are for girls fourteen (14) to seventeen (17) years of age. Due to the overwhelming requests of contestants vying to represent any one country, the pageant system has decided to welcome all applicants to compete for the coveted title. With this new concept, the delegates will no longer wear sashes bearing the name of their country but now will bear the name of the company or organization sponsoring them. Another change to the pageantry system will be the month in which the coronation event is held, traditionally the show was held in July however beginning this year the show will be held in October. This will now allow more contestants to participate and not having to choose between the pageant, summer vacations, internships and exchange student opportunities.

The Miss Georgia Caribbean Pageant is putting together a spectacular showcase for this year’s coronation show and is now accepting applications for all pageant categories. Our sponsors have played an integral role in the MGCP shows and their continued support is truly appreciated. Upcoming dancehall artist, GABRIEL

Gabriel, a young and promising artist surfaced the dancehall scene in 1999. Equipped with a powerful voice, he has put out several good hits and delivered excellent stage performances.
His well known recording 'Long, Plain and Straight', although controversial did very well in Kingston's dancehall. “ It was looked at as a song that disrespected the government of the day” said Gabriel and it therefore did not get airplay. He believes that his lyrical delivery is by no means meant to offend the public, as it is an artistic expression of life experiences. In the Bible, Gabriel was a prophet and I see myself as doing the same by talking about things that are going on now," he said. (Jamaica Gleaner June 4, 2002)
Gabriel was born in the Stand Pipe area of Kingston 6, Jamaica as Levardes Fisher on January 6, 1979. His career started in 1997 through the recording of This is How Its Gonna Be Done, a combination with Corner Stone, produced by Tony Links of Links label.
Gabriel’s Recordings also includes:
Live it up-Brat Productions on the Pink Lotion Rhythm
Sick, Shams, Intercourse Rhythm
Life over Death, Silent River, CJ Records
Government, King Jammys rhythm volume

During 1999-2000 he was featured on several of Jamaica’s most exclusive Stage Shows including, Saddle To The East 99, Champions in Action 99-, Spectrum 2000- The Millennium project that boasted a top of the top lineup that includes artistes such as Capleton, Buju Bantion, Baby Cham and Cobra. Although he has been out of the spotlight recently, Gabriel continues to record. His Latest singles include:

New Release: Highlanda Summer 2003 Volume 1

Highlanda, Atlanta's top rated sound system has released its latest CD Summer 2003 Volume 1. I hopped in the car for a review session and I must say it is rated HOT and definately warrants two thumbs up. In particular, the selections are hott! What I love about the CD is that the rhythms are nicely mixed together with pulsating sounds of reggae and soca, providing a sexy summer feel.

Summer 2003 Volume 1 features two of Atlanta's hottest artists, Shooks & Ras Val, also Headly Shines formerly of Born Jamericans, and artist Tings Change's (T.C.) explosive tune 'Highlanda Property,' is wicked, and earns massive forwards. Also in the mix are some of the ladies of dancehall, Chrissy D, Tanya Stephens, & Lady Saw.

A delight to commuters, trust me, it gives you just the picker-upper you need to start or end your day- it will have you jamming in rush hour traffic. I caught myself in an intense winin' session pushing back my bumpa, and at other times I could not help but forward a tune thus beating down di dashboard.. Yeah man it ready!

Recorded live in Marietta the CD provides hours of juggling/dancing vibes with superb mixing, clean and precise. Rhythms seem to flow together effortlessly.

The God bless segment built up the vibes from 'Untn Zion' by Ras Shiloh. Mixology specialist Kahlil Wonda at his best on turntables rinses back to back Sanchez and a set of 'meditation' tunes catering to the mothers and empresses courtesy of Garnett Silk, then, in comes Sizzla Kalunji's 'Just One of Those Days' and the vibes tek off. The Wonda drops in some Warrior King and Anthony B, giving the people what they NEED, not what they WANT, and the segment lines up the JAVA riddim nicely. Uh-hUh! A classic Wayne Wonda on the Java gets featured while Super Pec holds the vibes and lets the people know what a gwaan roun' ere. More Java! More Wayne Wonda specials!

...and the mixing continues, TedroStarr -kill dem from far- ropes in and drops some chunes: Not an ordinary thing, trust me vibes inna di place. "Entertainment RUB-A-dUB Stylee. Highlanda Stylee!" 'Summer 2003 Volume 1' then goes into this year's Kashmir Riddim tunes, TIME TRAVEL and All-OUT Riddims. Its Straight Vibez from this point. Bass and more Bassline and we are 'good to GO'!

Easy Super Pec, Kahlil Wonda and TedroStarr, Top Rated, Highlanda Sound. CHECK THE CD and experience the HEat of Summer 2003 VoLuME ONE!
